During the sentencing of the duo at the regional court on June 16, 2021, the 27 year old opened up and told the court that he decided to start a drug trafficking operation after a drug dealer who was his friend told him that the COVID-19 lockdown made it difficult for him to acquire drugs to sell. The 27 year old saw the opportunity and started buying drugs from the darkweb and reselling them tom people.

The 27 year old told the court that he placed orders of one kilogram of amphetamine on darkweb markets and had the drug packages shipped to the home of his 28 year old’s under fake names.

In the beginning the operation was successful. However, it fell apart when the 28 year old partner was “too busy” to receive a shipment of amphetamine. The mail courier returned the package back to the mail distribution center. The defendants showed up at the distribution center to retrieve the package, but it had already been mailed to a return address in Germany. In Germany Customs officers inspected the package and they found a kilogram of amphetamine inside it. German authorities contacted the Tyrolean police and informed them of the drug package and gave them the 28 year old’s address. This lead to the arrest of both suspects.

The 27 year old suspect told the court that he had purchased 4.2 kilograms and sold 2.5 kilograms of amphetamine.

The 28 year old told the court that he had no idea that the packages he received on his friend’s behalf had drugs in them. He also disclosed that he was paid 4,000 euros to receive the drug packages and hand them over to his friend.

After the judge heard the defendants’ confessions, he sentenced the two men. The 28 year old was sentenced to four years in prison and the 27 year old was sentenced to four years and six months in prison.
