How to Buy on Versus Market
Congratulations, you have made the extremely wise choice of selecting Versus Market as your DNM platform to make your purchases! We are confident that once you complete your first transaction on Versus, you will make this your “home market.”
Now, enough formalities and on to the question that brings you to this article: “How do I buy products on Versus market?”
First of all please prepare a dedicated electrum wallet to buy on Versus. This is not an obligatory step yet we highly recommend to do it.
We highly recommend to use electrum wallet and we will only support electrum related support requests!
1. Give your new wallet a name… or don’t and hit ‘NEXT’.
2. Select a STANDARD WALLET and not a multisig wallet then hit “NEXT”
3. Select ‘Create a new seed’ and hit ‘NEXT’
4. Select ‘Segwit’ if you want to pay less transaction fees.
4.1 Select ‘Legacy’ if your usual wallet doesn’t support segwit.
5. Hit the ‘NEXT’ button. We highly recommend to backup your seed in a safe place! If you lose your seed you lose your coins!
6. Copy the seed and back it up in a safe place then hit next.
7. Confirm the seed by typing it in again then hit ‘NEXT’.
8. Use a strong password! If someone can get your wallet file he can try to bruteforce his way in so make sure you have a strong password/phrase. Hit ‘NEXT’
9. On your newly created wallet we want to run all traffic over Tor so click the connection icon in the lower right corner.
10. Click ‘Proxy’ tab then select ‘Use Tor proxy at port 9050’. Click ‘Close’
11. Click on ‘Tools’ tab > ‘Preferences’
12. Click on ‘General’ tab and change the base unit to BTC instead of mBTC to avoid confusion on later payments and close the window. IMPORTANT STEP FOR 2/3 MULTISIG!
13. Click on the ‘Wallet’ tab and select ‘Information’ IMPORTANT STEP FOR 2/3 MULTISIG!
14. Copy the xpub/ypub/zpub… 15. …and paste the xpub/ypub/zpub into your Versus settings.
16. Hit ‘Save’.
You are now ready to purchase items via 2/3 multisig escrow!
Once you created your electrum wallet and imported your xpub/ypub/zpub into your Versus settings…
Versus Market has a simple 6 step process to buying and receiving your goods:
-> Checkout occurs once you have selected the listing of your choice from your vendor’s shop. The product, with the appropriate quantity, will be added to your cart. From there, you will be asked to selection a shipping option and a payment option. Both of these items come from determinations that are preset by the vendor.
-> Input your Refund Address. This is a BTC/XMR address in which your funds will be sent back to you in the case of a refund. Remember, Versus Market is doesn’t have onsite-wallets so it is very important that you set a refund address.
-> Input your PGP ENCRYPTED shipping information into the notes section. If you aren’t sure about how to do this, make sure to check our PGP Basics Guide!!
-> Versus Market will automatically generate an invoice for your order. Make sure to send the correct amount of cryptocurrency to the wallet address in your invoice. You will have a limited time to do so and if you fail to complete that, your order will automatically be canceled.
-> Your vendor will not see or receive your order until you pay this invoice!!!
-> Now the proverbial ball is in the vendor’s court. The vendor can either choose to accept your order or decline it in which case you will be refunded to the refund address you provided in step #1 within an estimate time frame of six hours.
-> Your vendor will notify you through Versus’ transaction system when your product has shipped. Please remember to refence the Buyer’s Best Practices Guide as it relates to shipping time etiquette. Most vendors are overworked single man operations and same or next day shipping cannot always be guaranteed.
-> So a few days have passed and you’ve received your order. Congrats, you’ve successfully completed your transaction on Versus Market – but wait, you are forgetting something! Your vendor who sent you the product a few days ago will not actually be paid until you finalize the order. This is why it is extremely important to finalize your order once you have received it and verified its contents. Be nice to your vendor and expect the same in return. Don’t wait until your 3 day weekend party binge ends to finalize the order you received Friday!
-> Once you finalize your order you will have the opportunity to leave feedback on your transaction experience, on the product you received and on the vendor overall. Remember, vendors thrive on feedback and customers rely on it. Leave a helpful and honest review! If there was a problem, don’t be afraid to say so – constructive criticism helps vendors improve and lets customers know in advance. If you had a great transaction, leave a nice and detailed comment. Vendors are business owners and customer feedback is what keeps them running.
How to be a vendor on Versus Market
So, you want to be a vendor on Versus Market. That’s great! The Versus Project, however, has extremely high standards for our vendors and so it is very important that, in addition to adhering to the general market codes of conduct, you review the “Versus Vendor Best Practices” to ensure that you will have a positive vending experience while upholding the high standards we require.
-> Make sure you have a 4096 bit encrypted PGP key. (if you have already followed our PGP basics guide this won’t be a problem. If you aren’t sure how to do this, please go back to our PGP basics guide.)
-> Make sure you have enough time to dedicate to manage your business on Versus, especially when it comes to communications. We expect our Vendors to be responding to customer inquiries and processing orders daily. Failure to be communicative and/or active with customer orders will result in the removal of your vending abilities.
-> Ensure your profile has appropriate contact information. The Versus Project does NOT allow wickr, signal, telegram, etc type contact information in your profile. The only contact information that is allowed would be a secure email and/or a jabber account.
-> Keep transactions on the market and with escrow. Your jabber/email contacts are only to be used for emergency backups. Do not attempt to take customer transactions off the market and do not attempt to ask customers to release escrow on transactions early.
-> Ship the order within a reasonably expected timeframe. We do not recommend you mark the product “shipped” at the very moment it actually ships, for security purposes, however you are to be expected to actually ship the product within a reasonably expedient timeframe. While “this isn’t Amazon,” there is an expectation of service.
-> Stand behind the quality of your products. Do not bother vending low quality products on Versus Market. We are only interested in working with vendors that represent a high standard of product in all categories.
-> Know how to ship. If you are offering international shipping, ensure that you know how to get a package through customs. If you are offering domestic shipping, you should still take care to make your packaging professional. Don’t hand write labels, don’t use suspicious return addresses. Customers are putting their safety and trust in your hands.
-> Don’t list products unless you actually have them ready to ship. Do not put your listings up while you are waiting for your reup to arrive. ONLY put up listings when your product is ready to physically ship to a customer when they place the order.
-> Be active in the Versus sub-forum communities on Dread and other participating platforms. We want to work with vendors who are active in the community and interact with customers and openly standby their products.
-> Be prepared to submit samples of your product to harm reduction/drug quality testing.
