A German woman has been sentenced to more than three years in prison at the district court in Dresden for attempting to hire a hitman on the darkweb.
The woman is a 41 year old defendant from Dresden, according to a press release from the Dresden Public Prosecutor’s Office she was charged with hiring a hitman on the darkweb to kill her husband’s 23 year old girlfriend.
According to the testimonies presented in the sentencing hearing, a journalist reached out to German police in Feburary 2021 and he told investigators about the murder for hire plot. Investigations revealed that the defendant gave the hitman the 23 year old’s name, address, and vehicle’s plate number. She asked the hitman to make the murder look like an accident. The defendant sent the 0.2 Bitcoin to the hitman as payment for the hit.
The bitcoin transaction helped the investigators track the defendant resulting in her arrest on February 26, 2021. The investigators tried to track the bitcoin’s recipient which resulted in the identification of a Romanian individual who was residing in the UK. The suspected hitman has, not been arrested.
The defendant has pleaded guilty to the charges against her. On November 13, 2021 a judge sentenced her to three years and one month in prison.
